Policy and Advocacy
Advocating for a Just World
"Another world is not only possible, she is on her way. On a quiet day, I can hear her breathing." -Arundhati Roy
Quest for Peace’s policy and advocacy program is rooted in our commitment to building a better, more just world for the peoples of the Americas. We would like you to join us in this quest. You can play a critical role by: signing up to get our updates , giving us a donation to do this work, reaching out to your local community, building coalitions, and keeping in touch with your member of Congress to ensure that alternative voices are heard on Capitol Hill.
We now coordinate the Alliance for Responsible Trade (ART), a national alliance of union, religious, environmental, and advocacy groups that promote alternative trade rules. ART represents the U.S. to the Hemispheric Social Alliance which has opposed current trade policies and promoted an alternative vision of trade for the last ten years.
We also work with other coalitions on trade justice issues, playing coordinating roles in coalitions working to document impacts of the Central America Free Trade Agreement. The Quest for Peace is a member organization of the Jubilee USA Network , advocating debt cancellation for the world’s most impoverished countries.
With partners organizations in Nicaragua we publish analysis of the impact of economic policies, and ensure that the analysis is presented to international financial institutions like the IMF, the World Bank and Inter-American Development Bank.
We also work to monitor and speak out on U.S. policy toward Nicaragua.
Other Current Work:
Publications on Debt and Trade

This partnership, which began as an emergency aid program during the U.S. sponsored contra war, has grown into a powerful rural development program addressing rural poverty. The Quest for Peace also works to address policies that negatively impact our development efforts and contribute to the impoverishment of the Americas. Continue reading...

Stop CAFTA
Since February of 2002 we have co-coordinated the 'Stop CAFTA' coalition with the Committee in Solidarity with the People of El Salvador, CISPES. Though the agreement has been ratified in the U.S., Central America (except Costa Rica) and the Dominican Republic, full implmentation has not yet occurred. We will continue to resist CAFTA implementation and monitor the impact of the agreement in Central America and the U.S.

Hands off Nicaragua
As Nicaragua's 2006 elections approach the United States continues an age-old pattern of manipulating the country's internal politics. Along with the Nicaragua Network we are monitoring U.S. manipulation and speaking out against it.
